Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is reported to be a slow developing disease. It occurs when a group of cells on the cervix begin to become abnormal and go through some pre-cancerous stages, and then they may end up developing into a tumour. The signs of cervical cancer are reported to include pain or abnormal bleeding.
One of the major risk factors for developing cervical cancer is reported to be exposure to the Human Papilloma virus (HPV). This virus is commonly transmitted via unprotected sex. Smoking has also been related to cervical cancer. This is because carcinogenic chemicals that are discovered in cigarettes may damage special cells in the cervix which usually repair cells there if they become abnormal.

Ways suggested to fight against cervical cancer
- It has been advised that sexually active individuals should use a condom, because the more sexual partners a person has, will raise the predicted risk of being exposed to cancer- causing strains of HPV.
- Quitting smoking is believed to lower the risk of suffering from HPV, and if someone is already infected with HPV and is still smoking, it is thought their chances of developing cervical cancer are much dearer.
- Sexual partners have been recommended to maintain good levels of hygiene.
- Going for frequent cervical smear tests, believed to help predict which women are likely to develop cancer of the neck of the womb is thought to be a great idea.

Cancer
There are many various types of cancer, which fall into few separate categories.

- Carcinomas - These are cancers that affect the layer of tissue that lines the outer and inner layers called the epithelium. The sections which are at highest risk are believed to be the organs, glands and mucus membranes.

- Leukaemia’s - Leukaemia’s are believed to be cancers of the tissue involved in forming blood, such as bone marrow. In this situation abnormal blood cells may go out of control.

- Sarcomas - These are cancers that form in connective tissue and might appear in any section of the body such as fat, muscle, blood and lymph.

- Lymphomas - These are cancers of the lymphatic system, which features lymph, this is the fluid which bathes body tissue. Lymph is filtered via the lymph nodes, whose role is to prevent infection and trap carcinogens, which makes them more common to cancer.
